This is my personal celebrated of the Roger Moore 007 movies so I was looking forward to the DVD to sight what sort of commentary would be provided to go along with it. Here we are treated ti Producer Micheal Wilson, Designer Ken Adam and writer Chrostopher Wood recounting their memories of the movie in a screen-specific commentary. Added to this is a lengthy “Making of….” feature (over 40 minutes) that all in all combines to fabricate this a movie that belongs in everyones DVD library. The movie iteself is curious with very satisfying action scenes, humor and the most lovely actress ever to grace the movie cloak – Barbara Bach…

The movie really has it all and we learn before the main titles that this is going to be a very different 007 movie from the ones that preceded it. In 1977 audiences rose to their feet to cheer what is unruffled one of the most extraordinary stunts in motion relate history. Accompanied by a disco beat (that I like) Bond leaves the cabin of one of the EON series’ sexiest femme fatales, is pursued by Russian assassins and then ski’s off a mountain-top, apparently to his death. I’ve never been a fan of Bond in the main titles and this is unfortunately the one that started this trend. My well-liked main title sequences are those in which 007 does not appear.

The sequence at the submarine injurious introduces us to a couple of recurring characters, first is Minster Frederick Gray and then Admiral Hargreaves (who would later be promoted to the location of M) . These are two welcome additions and Gray’s appearance in particular would serve the series four years later when the series lost Bernard Lee.

We also are introduced to Gen. Gogol as head of the KGB. Gogol would return in each of the successive movies until 1987’s THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS when actor Walter Gotell’s health had deteriorated to such an extent that his portion was rewritten to a mere cameo, while the chunk of his scenes went to John Rhys-Davies.

What follows is a mix of action (the car straggle, battle inside the Liparus and relate fight stand out), drama (confrontation in the hotel room in particular) and Moore getting to be ruthless (dispatching Sandor from the rooftop – “What a apt chap.”) Of course any review of the movie would be remiss not to mention the introduction of Jaws.

Roger Moore’s tenure as James Bond included the worst 007 entries. Even though it’s been more than 20 years since its unique release, 1982’s THE Bad Wearisome is composed an impressive marvel of low-budget filmmaking. It does have its palpable flaws, but this first feature-length directorial danger from SPIDERMAN’s (2002) Sam Raimi, produced on a shoestring budget of circa $350,000, offers clever special FX, moving make-up work, relentless shocks, and radiant direction and camera work. This is one of the greatest alarm films ever made. Some people may collect the special effects work old by todays standards, but for a low-budget film as this is they are well-behaved and charged with a weirdly supernatural energy; something one never sees today in the gigantic production terror films.

However, this review is mainly going to be about the represent format. Heinous Monotonous was filmed in 16mm, which is a full-screen format, not widescreen.

This is (also) a review of the REMIX VERSIONS. I won’t go into the awesomeness of Cowboy Bebop other than to say that it is the best anime series ever, I’d even call it one of the best television shows ever!

While it has been universally renowned on various postings about the remix versions that the sound is significantly better than the recent sessions, there are multiple varying reviews on the Characterize QUALITY. Some say there is no dissimilarity at all, some say it’s a bit better, some say it’s a lot better, all say they have “checked” both versions. Well, I took it a step further. I watched both versions side by side on an Avid Nitris Professional video editing system with high definition high resolution (HDHR) monitors and here is the DEFINITIVE Retort. There is a incompatibility, they lightened it and did a very tiny color correction. Basically, the frail versions were a bit sunless and some of the detail went unnoticed while the remix versions are lighter and there is more visible detail and color. In terms of viewing expeirience this means that a majority of the scenes witness noticibly (if marginally) better. There are sure scenes, however, where the lightness works against it. Some of the more noirish scenes recognize a bit bleedy. Overall I would say that there is a dissimilarity in video quality and that the disagreement is mostly an improvement. But, even to the die hard fan the dissimilarity is negligible.

If you don’t occupy the originals, if they’re scratched, if you’re a large fan, if you have an awesome theatre system with excellent surround, or if you have a crappy petite tv and can’t peek the detail in the image, Come By THE REMIX. If not, while they are chilly, they’re not worth the $30 a pop.

The last episode “Bohemian Rhapsody” involves a hacker that is using the Gate systems which ships utilize to proceed around the galaxy to buy millions from electronic bank accounts. Our bounty hunters, with Edward in the lead, attempt to track down the elusive mastermind of the draw.

What’s to complain about when it comes to Bebop? The cinematic feel and lack of static action shots with attractive backgrounds site this reveal plan apart from other anime. Even watching it 8 years after it was produced, it calm shines! You accumulate a petite more background on Spike and Vicious in the Jazz episodes but you calm feel as though there are unspoken volumes about these characters. The lack of bug-eyed typical anime characters also makes this demonstrate appeal to more adult audiences and even non-anime lovers. The humor and the director’s passion for films in general really comes through, and the experience is even better in the original 5.1 remix. The only extra on the disk is an interview with Cartoon Network Producer Sean Akins.

OK folks, there are very few DVD/Movies I can wholeheartedly recommend for the entire family, but Calamity Jane is one of them! Made in 1953, when Doris Day was in her early 20’s, Calamity Jane made Doris a musical and theatre star. No quiz about it, Doris Day carries this movie on her slim feminine shoulders. She absolutely shines as Calamity Jane, the ultimate western tomboy cowgirl. Doris excels in singing (the songs are positively addicting and you will be humming them for days to reach), dancing (wow, can she dance!), shooting (well, she pretends to shoot), and acting (comedy and drama) her arrangement through this rolicking delightful film. Doris Day is impartial a treat to gawk and the kids will plunge in cherish with her. Day is so talented in so many different ways, and this film is a perfect vehicle to showcase her talents. Doris definitely deserves an A+ for her performance.

The supporting cast is terrific as well, with Howard keel as the baritone singing Wild Bill Hickok, and Allyn Ann McLerie as Katie Brown, Calamity’s girlfriend and rival for the romantic attentions of US Cavalry’s Lieutenant Danny Gilmartin.

The region is simple, fun, and entertaining; the whole family will savor this one from 2 year former Dreadful Too to 102 year stale grandma! There is nothing deep here for your mind to consider about, no, this is a movie to fair sit help and like, and like it you will.

Despite his attractive comedic gifts, Sid Caesar never had considerable luck trying to accomplish the leap from television (where he shone brilliantly) to the grand cover. THE BUSY BODY is a typical example of his cinematic output. One of the basic problems with the film is the character Caesar plays — namely, he barely has a character to play. He simply portrays a hapless schmuck who finds himself in one tight area after another. The whole thing might have worked better if the lead character was a wisecracking coward like Bob Hope or a nervous bungler like Don Knotts. (In fact, with a music procure by Vic Mizzy, THE BUSY BODY is, conceptually, a Knotts vehicle.) But dreadful Sid is trapped in a bland, ill-defined role that squanders nearly every opportunity to do Caesar’s flair for mimicry and pantomime or his curious ear for dialect to splendid employ.

While there are some laughable status pieces, director William Castle — the genial schlockmeister who conceived publicity gimmicks such as “Emergo” (HOUSE ON Paralyzed HILL) and “Percepto” (THE TINGLER) — was hardly the ideal candidate to helm a comedy, even one with morbid overtones. (Castle’s “straight” anxiety films are funnier than his comedies.) THE BUSY BODY is paced so s-l-o-w-l-y that you forget this is supposed to be droll. The film fails to conclude the sort of brisk momentum that’s crucial to this kind of “wacky” farce.

Taking a cue from IT’S A Enraged, Aroused, Inflamed, Aroused WORLD (which Caesar appeared in), the supporting cast is loaded with amusing folks: Richard Pryor (his film debut), Kay Medford, Dom DeLuise, Godfrey Cambridge, Marty Ingels, Jan Murray, Ben Blue (who appeared with Caesar in Exasperated Furious WORLD), Bill Dana, George Jessel, Mickey Deems. Unfortunately, objective like Caesar, they’re saddled with mature material. Arlene Golonka (MAYBERRY R.F.D.) gives an enjoyably bubbly performance as a ditzy widow who helps Caesar solve the mystery of the missing corpse. Robert Ryan, Anne Baxter, and Charles McGraw (who was also in Angry Aroused WORLD) — three fair dramatic actors with many other, better films to their credit — are also tossed into the mix.

There’s a lot of humorous talent keen with THE BUSY BODY, so it’s all the more disappointing that this narrate about a stiff never really comes to life.

I agree with the first reviewer. It isn’t the funniest mob film, but it is fun. William Castle’s indispensable goal for all his films is to provide entertainment and he succeeds in this one. The variety and diversity of the cast keeps the film going and the ending is stronger than one would suspect. I cherish Dom DeLuise and Robert Ryan. Richard Pryor demonstrates his comedic acting ability from the get-go. Arlene Golonka is a sexy deviation from her pleasant girl character during her Andy of Mayberry days. Ann Baxter hangs in there as a wannabee sex kitten with a whip. I wasn’t that crazy about Sid Ceaser’s character, having seen him in It’s A Wrathful, Aroused, Excited, Aroused World. Overall, it’s a ample lift and worth adding to your personal library.

I loved watching it again on TV Land, but was disappointed that they extinct the final season theme/credits for all episodes. It may seem like a trivial thing, but I’ve always loved the theme song that they feeble from seasons 3-5. I’ve been dying to hear that beefy theme song – with the Jazzy mid fragment – for over 20 years. I’m quiet waiting.

Universal chose not to effect out the recent versions of these episodes, instead using the versions given to TV Land. Now, the episodes that I’ve seen so far appear to be bulky length, but I’ve only watched the first two and scanned through the rest. (Update – it looks like unbiased about all of the episodes are chubby length.) The decision to go with the versions that have the evil theme song/credits is perplexing, though.

They dug deep and found the novel versions from seasons 1 & 2, why couldn’t they do the same with season 3?

The report and sound quality for the Season 3 Box Space is acceptable, but not as pleasant as seasons 1 & 2 (both of which were flawed in authoring/mastering, but had satisfactory source material) . What happened? A year wait and this is the best they can do? I know these aren’t the biggest sellers Universal has, but they’re selling well enough to warrant releasing all seasons, so why not continue to do at least the same quality job that they did with seasons 1 & 2? It makes no sense.

The quality of the episodes of this classic exhibit more than calls for the capture of this box position, but it is a disappointing release, and I hope that Universal gets it accurate for Season 4! (Arrive on guys – Current, Upright Theme Songs, and better narrate & sound quality!)

I can vividly remember watching Emergency as a kid and being in alarm of the things that Gage and DeSoto were able to do as Paramedic Firefighters. Abet then I could not wait for The Brand is Just to be over so that Emergency would advance on…

As I got older I found myself drawn to the field of Emergency Medicine and at 16 I started as a volunteer at the local ambulance squad, and at 18 became a NY Station EMT. I went on to work at NYC EMS and in fact met my husband of going on 26 years while at EMT class. Without this prove I would not have married my husband or had my 3 children. I am obvious the creators of this exhibit never imagined that it would have such impact of so many lives!

I have seasons 1 & 2 and preordered season 3 and as soon as it arrives my husband and I will sit down and witness it without fail…

“Quo Vadis”, based on the recent by Henryk Sienkiewicz would have to be come the top of my list of favourite 1950’s religious legend productions. The film boasts an fabulous cast but towering over all of them is the behind Peter Ustinov in his unforgettable performance as the deranged Nero. His interpretation of this evil Emperor who began the first concentrated persecution of the early Christians is collected the visual image for a lot of people, myself included,that first comes to mind when Nero’s name is mentioned. Already having been filmed a number of times in the peaceful era and once again since this 1951 film, this is tranquil the definitive version of the myth of the early Christian Church struggling to survive in Nero’s Rome after the tremendous fire.

With the advent of television in the early 1950’s Hollywood fought abet with splashy, lavish productions that could not be matched by the flickering dusky and white image of television in it’s infancy. “Quo Vadis”, lent itself perfectly for this purpose and an already shaky MGM save all of it’s resources into the filming of this define production. The sage centres around cocky Roman soldier Marcus Vinicius (Robert Taylor) who after three years of successful campaigning returns to savour the delights of Nero’s Rome. Detained at the villa of a retired Roman general Marcus falls for the simple charms of the general’s adapted daughter Lygia (Deborah Kerr) who unbeknown to Marcus is secretly a Christian. Seeing her care for for him but not belief the families idea in the admire of a single god and in loving your fellow man despite their background or accelerate Marcus has Lygia taken to Rome and placed in Nero’s “House of Women” and seeks to obtain her is enjoy. The appearance of the Apostle Peter who has been called to Rome by Christ’s message gives the Christians the strength to endure their ordeals and Marcus and Lygia are married by him unbiased prior to his have matrydom on Vatican Hill. Nero however goes too far in his persecution and the mob turns on him resulting in his descend from power and suicide and the reins of power being taken over by the more level headed General Galba.

While “Quo Vadis”, in some areas is not always proper historically the faults are not glaring ones and it does give a intellectual represent of the growth of the early Christian movement and the persecution it endured which of course went on long after Nero’s death. First and foremost it is piquant and dramatic viewing and is the classic example of archaic style movie making at its most lavish. The film is filled with unforgettable images, for example the spacious crowd scenes during Marcus’ triumpiant entry into Rome, and the burning of the city by Nero which incredibly was done on both fat sized and petite sets. The wintry blooded destruction of the Christians in Nero’s Circus of course is probably the most luminous image in the film and is riverting in it’s terror and fair depiction of people being eaten by lions or being ancient as human torches. These scenes in “Quo Vadis”, have I absorb never been bettered in depicting the insanity and brutality of Nero and his regime. Performances are uniformily aesthetic here. As the two lovers Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr are honest perfect as the two illmatched lovers from different worlds. Finlay Currie does a most inspirational fraction of work as Peter and special mention must go to Patricia Laffan who is perfect in a chilling performance as the faulty Empress Poppaea. Directed by MGM feeble Mervyn LeRoy, who was responsible for such diverse MGM productions as “Waterloo Bridge”, and “Blossoms in the Dust”, here he is smooth honest as at home with this orderly scale type of film and his directoral integrity is evident in every frame of this film. “Quo Vadis”, ended up being nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Narrate and Best Supporting Actor for Peter Ustinov.

The fact is that the people did initiate to circulate rumors that Nero was at fault, and he was responsible for blaming th Christians for the fire to assign himself. He ordered to have them thrown to dogs, though, not lions, as in the film. However, like Showtime’s “The Tudors” one can somewhat overlook all of this historical jumping to conclusions and outright inaccuracy in the name of ravishing entertainment.

Funny and romantic, sweet and charming, an unlikely but brillantly witty leading lady and the beauty of Ireland combine to earn this diminutive film a definate keeper! This one very distinguished reminds me of those astounding romantic screwball comedies of the 30’s and 40’s.

Marci Tizard(Janeane Garofalo) is sent on on assignment by her boss, a Senator from Boston Mass, who is in dire need of some benefit getting re-elected. The assignment…to come by the Senator McGlory’s relatives in a itsy-bitsy Brigadoonesque village in Ireland. Marci lands smack dab in the middle of a matchmaking festival and must ward off suitors in her quest to collect the senator’s roots. The towns people are charming but quirky, and there is one in particular that gets under Marci’s skin. A cynical ex-journalist(David O’Hara) matches wits with her and it’s a match made in heaven(or Ireland) .

Also starring is the unbelievable Milo O’Shea as “The Matchmaker”, who cleverly tries to bring these two together. The laughs are non close and will leave you smiling for some time afterwards. It was directed by Tag Joffe and has a terrific atmospheric soundtrack as well.

There are a couple editions of this DVD and the one I am reviewing has a record of Janeane Garofalo with the lovely hills of Ireland in the background and it is in the middle of a white building. Milo O’shea is standing on the ground, the title is is red with a clover in the name. I portray it in detail because the tech info here differs on some aspects. The studio of production is Universal (not USA) . The film which was shot on situation in radiant Ireland has been given a glowing transfer and may be viewed in widescreen(2.35:1) or the standard format. Righteous surround sound in DD5.1 lets you hear every detail. There’s not alot in the plot of extras, but there are some cast bios and filmographies and Closed Captioning in English as well as subtitles in French and Spanish and some theatrical trailers.

The film is rated R for some langauge.

I adore this movie! The scenery is breathtaking, the acting is first rate, and the tale is charming. This movie transports you to Ireland. The fictional village of Bali Na Gragh (sp? ) is overcast yet welcoming, and the people all sight trusty (not like extras on a Hollywood plot) . It is refreshing to net a romantic comedy that does not occupy area in an urban landscape. You won’t win any Mystic Tanned lads or lasses here! Janeane Garafolo is gorgeously pale, and looks like a dependable woman. Her acting here is first rate, as usual. After watching the movie 8 times, it is hard to imagine anyone else playing the role of Marcy. Her “match”, Sean, played by David O’Hara is one of my celebrated male movie characters ever. He is a charming, shimmering cad with a heart of gold. O’Hara is definately not a Brad Pitt or Ben Affleck (thank God!), but man is he sexy! It’s about time a romantic comedy has a male lead that isn’t prettier than his female costar. The matchmaker, played by Milo O’Shea is the glue that holds this terrific myth together. O’Shea’s narration throughout the film is hilarious. All the supporting cast is agreeable, although I don’t understand why Denis Leary gets top billing in this film (after Garafolo) . His section was very cramped, only somewhat pivotal, and could have been played by anyone. The movie follows Marcy to Ireland as she searches for Senator John McGlory’s Irish roots. She happens to near during the matchmaking festival and meets Sean, who thoroughly irritates her. You can guess what happens next. I usually despise romantic comedies. Any Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks combo makes me race for the hills! If you are like me, study The Matchmaker. If the quirky, realistic account doesn’t endear you, the soundtrack will! In fact, my ONLY complaint about The Matchmaker is that the soundtrack is not available. Do not miss this movie! It is probably sitting on the bargain shelf at your local video store, beacause not enough people know about it, or they are lacking taste. Step away from Sleepless in Seattle!! Give The Matchmaker a chance.
